Prior to the start of the Programme, successful Agri-Farm students have frequently confessed to being nervous at being placed in a classroom full of younger mangers from a wide range of industries and coming from a wide range of countries. But within days these fears have been dispelled. A good MBA consists of much more than the study of business it involves developing in individual students, people and leadership skills while providing maximum opportunity to gain from the experiences of other students.

Agriculture is a key industry with a vital role to play in helping to provide affordable food at a time when global food producers face a number of severe challenges. As a farmer you will have experiences and knowledge that is of interest to your fellow students and they in turn will help you to approach business problems from new and informed perspectives.

The decision to study for an MBA is a big commitment. For many farmers it would not be possible to take a year out to study – in fact it amounts to about 10 months of study between October and July – and in this case perhaps part-time study is more appropriate. This involves approximately 12 weeks of study spread over two years or 6 weeks of study combined with 30 weekends – a Friday and Saturday – spread over the same period. Both full- and part-time students world in learning teams. This of course helps build team working skills though the team also provides support. All students miss some days due to illness or, for part-time students, a work commitment and at these times the team steps in collecting notes and other learning aids for their missing colleague.
